Rifle Hunting for Montana Elk is a challenging and exciting adventure.  With a limited amount of clients each week, the rifle hunter will have plenty of opportunity and often the chance at a trophy bull elk. Choosing which week is best is easy since each week provides plenty of action and is more relative to your own personal schedule.  Weather is historically milder during the first two weeks of the season.  These weeks are more favorable to those clients who like more “fall like” hunts.  During the latter parts of Montana’s elk season there is more opportunity for traditional style elk hunting with increased chances for snow and colder weather.  We don’t ever count on the migration from Yellowstone since nearly all of our successes come from resident elk.  However, many hunters choose the last two weeks with hopes of strong winter storms to help keep game herds more active.
