I will always remember the first week of November when I was 11. I couldn't wait to get out of school on Wednesday afternoon and get to Deer Camp. the only time during the year that I was able to spend time with my Dad, other than an occasional trip to the pond to fish for bluegills with a fly rod.

There truly is NOTHING in the world better for an eleven year old freckled faced kid to do than sit in the company of the elders at a deer camp and listen to them tell epic stories of hunting in days gone by.

My time at the Circle CT hunting camp in the backwoods of central Arkansas will be some of the memories I will cling to until I the day I die.

The unforgettable smell of bacon frying and the taste of homemade pancakes drenched in log cabin syrup to get my going to the deer stand. It was there in the lonely moments before daylight when the only thing I could see was the glow of Dad's cigarette that I knew this was something that I would do for the rest of my life.

I no longer carry a rifle into the woods. I've killed more than my share of big game at this time in my life But I still get out there with my buddies and sit in silence before dawn savoring that moment that is the coldest just before sun up. Forever seeking a glimpse of the mighty Wapiti in the wild and think fondly of Dad.

Thanks to you JB and the other knuckleheads at Dome Mountain Ranch for making it possible for another kid or two to spend time with his father.

Thanks to you JB

I loved the story , what a kid, his dad must be proud, but not as proud as I am of what you and Len have done for the people on Dome Mountain Ranch , I promise one of these hunting seasons I am going to be hiding in the Lodge to hear some of those stories. Love you mom

Jim,
You have written a very powerful article here. Although I currently do not live in Montana, I have kept abreast of the issues here. The Bison issue is an emotional issue for me. You have written pretty much of what I feel - I'd say you called a "spade a spade". I'm not sure that I've read anything so direct and and pointed out those that need pointing out. It seems that so many are afraid to say that. I applaud you for that. That being said, this article needs to be published in more places than on the DMR website. This is one of Montana's black eyes, along with the loss of the outfitter sponsored license.

I hold Montana close to my heart, and long to be back there.

Take care,
Paul

Lets let nature have its way! Quit trying to herd animals that know where to go, but man will not let them because man has always known better than nature! Our history shows us that if man would let nature alone maybe it could survive! Many negative and positive examples of this are found inYSNP! I have seen in my lifetime in Pennsylvania what man can do to the land and nature. Too many times politicians worry about getting re elected instead of doing what is right! Look at history and you can find a trail of do nothing that have been in office for years! Too bad people believe the bigger lies! Have you ever reseached a statement before you voted for it? Do you vote for political parties or persons? Do have a label? When was the last time you checked truth verses fiction!

That boy has a way of getting my heart rate going...been living vicariously through him since the first time he looked over his shoulder and said "just another hundred yards"....A "hundred yards" to a hunting outfitter is a few steps more than the normal guy!
